Common Denominators

How is it that one simple little common denominator can bring you together with mere acquaintances (people that are more strangers than friends) for an hour. These are people that I am normally not inclined to spend time with outside of certain environments. We are not friends, and are far from ever being friends. However, because we met at a restaurant to eat the same food, we were able to spend a pleasant 60 minutes together. Chances are that we will ignore each other again in a few days. In fact, I can almost guarantee that I will continue to avoid some of these people, and that they will commence with judging me. Still, it's an awe-inspiring thought that one small shared common thread could bring such different personalities together for a length of time...
Then again, perhaps I was just caught in the Twilight Zone for an hour.

  1. I have to say that sometimes this is how I feel at church functions. I love the sisters, don't get me wrong. But most of the time I feel alienated from them. They mostly live in town (not farming or living on acreage) most of the sisters my actual age are done having kids and don't yet have grandkids, or the ones who are close to my age are just starting to have kids. There is only one other parent in the ward who is homeschooling right now, so that sets us apart, and even though we both h/s our kids are far apart in age, so we don't do much together. I feel alone alot and hate that. The few that I have gotten really close to, move. I don't mean across town either. they up and move across the flippin' country! So yeah, I know the feeling of being in some weird episode of "the twilight zone".
